Feichun SANS 1520 Mining Cable

Overview

• The South African National Standards (SANS) are issued by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) to ensure product and service quality and conformity.

• SANS 1520 specifically regulates flexible electrical trailing cables for mining applications.

Voltage Ratings

• Part 1: 640V/1.1kV and 1.9/3.3kV

• Part 2: 3.8/6.6kV up to 19/33kV

• Part 3: up to 1.5kV d.c.

• Cables must comply with construction, materials, dimensions, and electrical performance requirements.

• Supplied to both mining and broader industrial applications, in line with international standards.

Part 1 – Low-Voltage Cables

• For underground mining use.

• Includes Type 41 and Type 61 trailing cables.

• Configurations:

  Three-core: two power + one pilot core

  Four-core: three power + one pilot core

  Six-core: three power + three pilot cores

Part 2 – High-Voltage Cables

• For both mining and non-mining heavy-duty applications.

• Includes Type 63, Type 66, Type 611, Type 622, and Type 633 flexible trailing cables.

Part 3 – D.C. Cables

• For low-voltage d.c. supply systems up to 1 500V d.c.

• Used in mines and hazardous environments.

• Covers cables for battery-operated equipment and other d.c. applications.
